The deepfake technology has been bubbling up over the past couple of years - but it still requires a decent amount of tech-savvy to pull it off at scale.

To date - most of the deepfakes have been relegated to porn and pranks.  

The video further below from Stanford research, though, is potentially a game  changer.

Simply by editing text - a video could be edited and altered with virtually no detection by the audience.  The primary use case would be for streamlining editing for news and television - but it could so easily be used to alter and influence news and audiences.

The difference here is the ease of manipulation to the point of it being virtually undetectable.
